Antibiotic
INDICATIONS
Treatment of community acquired upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Used in low dose in CF and non CF bronchiectasis for anti-inflammatory property. Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, MSSA, M. abscessus, M. avium infections.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Antacids
Reduce absorption of azithromycin.
Cyclosporin
Increase cyclosporin level.
Rifabutin
Increased plasma concentrations with macrolides.
Tacrolimus
Icreased plasma levels with macrolides.
Warfarin
May increase INR.
NOTES
Test for non-tuberculous mycobacteria before starting long-term therapy.
