Antibiotic
INDICATIONS
Treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa respiratory infections. Part of Pseudomonas aeruginosa eradication protocol. Treatment of community acquired pneumonia. Relatively poor activity against S. pneumoniae. Used in combination with other antibiotic in NTM.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Antacids
Reduce absorption of ciprofloxacin.
Calcium salts
Reduced absorption of ciprofloxacin.
Cyclosporin
Increase risk of nephrotoxicity.
Ferrous sulphate
Absorption of ciprofloxacin reduced.
Magnesium Salts
Reduced absorption of ciprofloxacin.
NSAID
Increased risk of convulsions.
Probenecid
Reduces excretion of ciprofloxacin.
Theophylline
Increases theophylline level, increases risk of convulsions.
Warfarin
Increase INR.
NOTES
Avoid concurrent dairy or antacids (chelation). Caution in children due to arthropathy risk.
