INDICATIONS

Sensitive Haemophilus influenzae and Staph aureus infections. Used in combination to treat Burkholderia cepacia, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Achromobacter (Alcaligenes) xylosoxidans. Treatment of Mycobacterium abscessus infection.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Aluminium Hydroxide
Reduced absorption. Take 2-3 hours apart.

Antacids
Reduced absorption. Take 2-3 hours apart.

Anti-epileptics
Increased metabolism of doxycycline.

Calcium supplements
Reduced absorption. Take 2-3 hours apart.

Contraceptives (Oral)
Risk of reduced contraceptive effect.

Cyclosporin
Possible increased cyclosporin levels.

Dairy Products
Reduced absorption. Take 2-3 hours apart.

Iron
Reduced absorption. Take 2-3 hours apart.

Magnesium Salts
Reduced absorption. Take 2-3 hours apart.

Phenindone
Altered INR.

Quinapril
Reduced absorption of doxycycline.

Retinoids
Increased risk of benign intracranial hypertension.

Sucralfate
Reduced absorption of doxycycline.

Warfarin
Altered INR.

Zinc
Reduced absorption of doxycycline.

NOTES

Avoid in children <12 yrs and pregnancy. Take with plenty of water; remain upright.
